Ten Things Every Writer Needs to Hear

The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd.

Ecclesiastes 12:11

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

James 1:5

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

Though I speak with the tongues of men and angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass and clanging cymbals.

1 Corinthians 13:1

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

1 Corinthians 13:8

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Matthew 6:25-27

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Matthew 6:33-34

Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before Kings; He will not stand before unknown men.

Proverbs 22:29

  1. …I’m not sure if you’ve secretly bugged my house, or it’s just sheer coincidence (*cough cough* providence…), but child, you have this uncanny habit of posting exactly what I need to hear right when I need to hear it.

    1. Secretly bugged your house, of course. It’s so much cooler.
To quote a certain writer I know, ‘Let us take a moment to be freaked out by the awesomeness of God’.
